This module has been developed with experts from across the Region (incl. Sheffield Hallam University) to provide learners with an increased knowledge of behaviour change theory as well as an understanding of how the key principles and skills can be applied in practice.

The aim of this module is to develop learners understanding of behaviour change techniques. It presents an overview of different approaches and explains the underpinning theory. Concentrating on two approaches, brief advice and brief interventions, this module also aims to develop the core knowledge and skills required for working on a range of behaviour change issues.

On completion of this course learners will:

  • Understand the theory on which behaviour change techniques are based and be familiar with a range of approaches
  • Be more aware of the negative effects of some common lifestyle behaviours
  • Understand the principles and processes of using a person-centred approach when You can purchase a generic version of your insurance credit rating agencies score from TrueCredit. applying brief advice and brief interventions techniques
  • Understand the limits of your expertise and be aware of contexts and issues that require more advanced or specialist training

Target audience

This module is targeted at a wide range of people, and is suitable for anyone who may have the opportunity to help individuals manage and support their lifestyle outcomes, for example social care staff, health care staff, as well as carers and volunteers.

What learners have said?

An NHS colleague who recently completed the module offered this glowing testimonial: “I have just completed the Behaviour Change Techniques Module and thought it was both informative and interesting. The pace of the module was about right and all aspects were explained in easy to follow steps. I was most impressed by the additional downloads offered in each topic which reinforced my learning. This information will help further my own practice in the workplace. I have already recommended the module to my Trust colleagues and wider Health/Social care contacts.

Getting it right from the start network launched http://yhhiec.org/getting-it-right-from-the-start-network-launched/ http://yhhiec.org/getting-it-right-from-the-start-network-launched/#comments Wed, 27 Jun 2012 07:00:27 +0000 Cathy http://yhhiec.org/?p=5202 Getting it right from the start is the new network that connects  across Yorkshire and Humber to improve health and care for mothers and infants.

Getting it right from the start is a new, free to join, regional network that aims to connect people to improve health and care for mothers and infants. This network will bring people together to share best practice, knowledge, advice and resources to help them deliver the best care possible.

Over the past two years the YH HIEC and MIRU have been working closely with individuals, teams, organisations and networks across the region and beyond and through this work have brought together people with a shared interest in improving health and care for mothers and infants in Yorkshire and Humber.  We are keen to build on this informal network and hope that Getting it right from the start will help to sustain these important relationships over the coming months and years.

Anyone can join the network, from midwives to neonatal staff, doctors and nurses to mothers and families. If you are a team, an individual, an organisation or a large existing network, we will help you to connect with each other and help to navigate your way through the various resources and information to get the knowledge and support you need, when and where you need it.

Joining the network is free. Becoming a member will mean you can:

  • Connect with colleagues across the region working in similar settings through the online forum
  • Access resources including:
    • The Evidence into practice report and toolkit.
    • Case studies from people making positive changes to improve health and care for mothers and infants
    • Information leaflets, telephone pro-formas and many other local templates you can adapt and use in your organisations and teams
    • Promotional videos and posters

Mothers in prison consultation report http://yhhiec.org/mothers-in-prison-consultation-report/ http://yhhiec.org/mothers-in-prison-consultation-report/#comments Wed, 20 Jun 2012 13:47:41 +0000 Cathy http://yhhiec.org/?p=5216 The Maternal and Infant Health and Care theme are pleased to announce that the Mothers in prison consultation report is available to download now.

This report is part of the Tackling inequalities work carried out by the maternal and infant health and care theme in partnership with the Hallam Centre for Community Justice, Sheffield Hallam University and The Mother and Infant Research Unit – Department of Health Sciences at the University of York.

The aim of the consultation was to scope and map the health needs and health care of child bearing women in prison, using the Yorkshire and Humber region as a case study. The consultation exercises were designed to

  • Critically examine how prisons interact with health care agencies to meet the needs of childbearing women both inside and outside prison
  • Obtain the views of key stakeholders around improving practice and tackling barriers
  • Identify existing good practice in this area
  • Use this local pilot to inform the development of future research in this field.

The report is available to download here

Have you used health technology for things like measuring blood pressure, blood glucose or
your oxygen levels?

We are looking for patients and carers who can tell us if health technology works for them.

Involve Yorkshire & Humber has been asked by the NHS in Yorkshire & Humber to talk to patients about their experience of health technology. We want to find out if health technology is easy to use and whether you got the right information to help you use it.  The idea behind this is find out about your experience and, from this, to produce a leaflet with the best information about using health technology to help new patients.

How can you help?

  • We are looking for about 12 patients/carers to join a morning discussion about using health technology
  • It will be really friendly and informal
  • At the end there will be a free lunch and we will pay your travel expenses
  • You can pass this poster on to someone else who might want to attend

When?

Thursday 21 June 2012 from 10.00am to 1.00pm

Where?

St George’s Centre, Great George Street, Leeds, LS1 3BR

What next?

If you can volunteer please call Jemma Russell on 0113 394 2300 or Sarah Janicwicz on 07896 802 490 who will be able to book you a place over the phone.  By joining in the discussion you’ll be able to help new patients get better information abouthealth technology.
